The hydraulic, adjustable shock absorber has a piston (2) fixed to a piston-rod (3) and which divides the operating cylinder (1) filled with damping fluid into two compartments (4,5). A damping-valve (7) cooperates with a gas-filled compensating compartment and is positioned to one side of the operating cylinder (1) and has at least one duct (10). The part of the damping valve (7) housing (8) facing the shock absorber is connected to the shock absorber by a hollow piece (9) in the form of a screw (9a) going through the housing (8). At least one collar-type fitment (11) screws the shock absorber pipes (1) telescopically together. ADVANTAGE - The damping valve is fitted and the separate parts of the shock absorber are assembled without soldering or welding.
