Recovering useful substances from organic waste - using a combination of mechanical and biological liquefaction, used for treatment of bio:polymers in the liq. phase aid recovery of monomeric material
A process for biotechnological treatment of domestic and industrial organic waste to recover useful components comprises a combination of mechanical, thermal, chemical and biological treatments. In a 1st stage the organic waste, opt. after a sorting procedure, is mechanically comminuted to a slurry-like consistency and enzymes or microorganisms are introduced to biodecompose the organic material. During the biological treatment the conditions (water content, pH, ion concn., temp., etc.) are maintained at the optimum level to give the desired breaking down of the organic material. After the biological treatment, the mixt. is subjected to solid-liq. sepn., e.g. by sedimentation or filtration, and opt. after adding a flocculating agent. USE/ADVANTAGE - The combined process allows a higher deg. of processing and recovery of useful materials than is possible with prior art processes such as biogas prodn. and compos
