Road traffic tail-back warning installation - comprises independent sensors placed along road to be monitored and communicating by radio with warning signs

Along the road tailback sensors (2) are regularly distributed, each sensor monitoring a specific road section. At easily observed points along the road warning signs are provided. Specific warning signs (9) and sensors (2) are fixed to one another. The monitored road is a multi-lane motorway (1), the two sides of which are sepd. by a central reservation (4). The sensors are fitted on the central reservation, and the warning signs are erected along the traffic lanes in both directions. Each sensor has a radio transmitter, and each warning signal has a radio receiver. The sensors have masts with a transmitter aerial at the top. In the upper part of each mast a solar panel supplies energy supply to the sensor. In the mast's lower part an accumulator stores energy from the solar panel, a control electronic unit and the radio transmitter.
