Blood from a patient's body is drawn off through a pipe (2a) by a pump (13) which pumps the blood through a pipe (2b) to the blood filter (HF). The blood is then returned to the patient's body through the pipe (3) and air bubble trap (4). The filtrate, which has been separated from the blood in the blood filter (HF) flows through an expansion chamber (6), and then through a pipe (5) to the dialyser (7). The regenerated filtrate then flows through the pipe (8) to a second pump (12) which pumps it to a mixing chamber (14) in which it is mixed with fresh blood and returns through the pipe (2b) to the blood filter (HF).
