The lined box-shaped chamber has a trap door (2) which closes flush with the floor to form a sealed joint and can be nudged open by releasing a foot-operated catch. A platform (4) guided in the chamber by rollers (50) can be raised by means of thin bands (3) winding onto laterally coupled pulleys (10) which are connected on one side to a hand driven drum mechanism (13, 14, 15, 16) providing a mechanical advantage. A latch locks the platform in the raised loading and unloading position. The hand driven band (16) winds onto a spring-tensioned spool (17) and the system is balanced to keep the unloaded platform at rest in any position. The platform may be equipped with a shelf system mounted on wheels. USE/ADVANTAGE - Provides compact, concealed storage space in home or garage. Incorporates necessary safety features.
