A cylindrical housing (2) with an internal insulating lining (3) has a compression piston (4) which bounds a compression chamber (9) for cryogenic liquid. A LP line (11) leads from a fluid reservoir (10) to the compression chamber (9) and is shut off by an inlet valve (13). A HP line (12) leaving the compression chamber (9) is opened by an outlet valve (14). The compression piston (4) works in conjunction with a nitrogen reservoir (26) located on the side farthest from the compression chamber (9) and is activated by a reservoir pressure equal to or greater than the pressure in the compression chamber (9). USE/ADVANTAGE - Gives gas film free seating of compression piston and prevents fluid leakage.
