Size applicator for horizontal warps - has dam with scraper blade against lower squeeze roll to retain size bath in roll nip

A size applicator has the common tangent to the circumference of the main squeeze rolls pointing horizontally or slightly upwards in the direction of motion of the threads. A size bath is held at the nip by a dam which has a stripping edge against the lower squeeze roll. The upper edge of the dam is at least at the height of the main squeeze point. The system can incorporate a third roll to give some pretreatment and it can also be used in conjunction with the stripping edge. USE/ADVANTAGE - The arrangement allows an essentially horizontal threadline while still avoiding stop marks in the warp as with a vertical threadline.
