Dyeing cotton with vat or sulphur dyes - using alkali metal poly:carbonyl-ferrate reducing agent and sodium gluco-heptonate

Dyeing with vat or sulphur dyes is effected in the presence of a reducing agent (I) and an Fe-complexing agent (II). (I) is an alkali metal tetracarbonylferrate or a cpd. of formula M2(Fe3(CO)11), where M = alkali metal. (I) is Na tetracarbonylferrate (Ia) and (II) is Na glucoheptonate (IIa). The (I):(II) molar ratio is 3:1 to 1:2. Vatting is effected in the presence of a wetting agent. USE/ADVANTAGE - The process is esp. useful for dyeing cellulosic textiles, e.g. cotton. Vatting can be effected rapidly at relatively low temps. (20-115 deg.C) without formation of sulphate-contg. waste water
