Colour Matching by Computer for Vat Dyes on Cotton

Computer color matching for forty indigenous vat dyes of all the commonly used shades was carried out on cotton fabrics of three sorts of constructions. Two distinct objectives can be realized by computer color matching one, availability of alternate recipes for a given shade and second, possible cost reduction by selection of a computer predicted recipe. Experimental trials carried out with the developed programs have indicated that match prediction was successful in sixty percent cases. In the reported match prediction, cost reduction of the order of 30% was observed in sixty percent of the accepted matches. The extent of the successful predictions will increase with the new recording spectrophotometer.
