Extinguishing oil well or natural gas head fires uses means whereby oxygen is removed from the flame head, thereby snuffing out the flame. A pipe is positoned over the source of the flame, and of sufficient dia. so that an oil spray cannot form on its walls. The pipe is positioned by a remote controlled tracked vehicle, i.e., a tank. The barrel of the tank serves to feed an inert gas, e.g, carbon dioxide, to the pipe. the inert gas is fed under pressure and creates an oxygen free zone around the core of the flame, thus snuffing out the flame. ADVANTAGE - Quicker, more reliable and economical method of extinguishing fires occurring in oil wells, where oil is escaping in an uncontrolled manner.
