An agent (I) for selectively forming a thin oxidising layer using permanganate on polymers, glass fibres and ceramic, but not on copper, comprises an aq. K-permanganate in an amt. of 10-100 g/l, which can be adjusted between 6-0 pH, pref. 5-2, using methane sulphonic acid. USE/ADVANTAGE - (I) can be used in the prodn. of printed circuits at low temps.
