A novel thermoplastic moulding compsn. comprises (A) at least 5, pref. 5-87.5, pts. wt. of a thermoplastic partially crystalline and/or amorphous polyamide; (B) 10-50 pts. wt. of a graft copolymer consisting of (B1) 15-80 wt.% of a mixt. of (i) 50-95% of styrene and/or alpha-Me styrene and (ii) 50-5 wt.% acrylonitrile on (B2) 85-20 pts. wt. crosslinked elastomeric substrate with average dia (d50) 0.05-5 (pref. 0.9-1) microns and Tg below 10 (esp. below - 20) deg.C; (C) 0.5-10 pts. wt. of an imidised polyacrylate contg. 0.05-10 wt.% anhydride units of formula (I) in addn. to imide units of formula (II), and (D) 0-75 (pref. 2-75) pts.wt. of a thermoplastic vinyl copolymer consisting of (i) 50-95 wt.% styrene and/or alpha-Me styrene and (ii) 50-5 wt.% acrylonitrile. in (I) and (III) R1 and R2 = H or Me; and R3 = H or 1-4C alkyl. USE/ADVANTAGE - The compsns. can be used for mfg. housings for electrical appts., car parts etc. They have improved impact resistance (esp. of low temps), high weld strength, improved heat deformation resistance and good chemical resistance. Impact resistance and weld strength are improved compared with the values obtd. for prior art binary (A)/(B) compsns. or ternary (A)/(B)/non-anhydride-contg. (C) compsns.
