The rigidity of a flat sheet (1) of material such as metal, plastics or fibre reinforced plastics, is increased by forming rows of convex rectangular areas. These areas are so shaped that the abutting edges of the rectangles are curved in the plane perpendicular to the general plane of the sheet. The sheet then has a curved cross-section in both longitudinal and transverse directions. The resistance of the sheet to bending in any direction is thus considerably increased.
