An Experimental Investigation of Secondary Flow Losses in Bends with Rectangular Cross Sections

Results of an experimental investigation into the secondary flow processes and associated losses in bends with rectangular cross sections are described. Detailed measurements were carried out of the time mean values of the total pressure, static pressure and velocity fields within two 120 degree bends. Combining these results with turbulence intensity measurements, a physical description is presented of the nature of the occurring secondary flow losses.
