Novel ferromagnetic film has a crystalline structure (partially) comprising a f.c.c. phase and consists of an alloy of formula (CoxFeyTz)aNb where T = one or more of Al, B, Si, Ga and Ge, x = 66-94 at.%, y = 5-24 at.%, z = 1-10 at.%, x+y+z = 100 at.%, a = 85-99 at.%, b = 1-15 at.%, a+b = 100 at.%. Also claimed are (i) ferromagnetic film prodn. by sputtering or spraying an alloy of formula CoxFeyTz onto a substrate in a nitrogen-contg. sputtering gas, and (ii) a magnetic head including the ferromagnetic film (A). USE/ADVANTAGE - The ferromagnetic film is used for thin film magnetic heads of longitudinal or vertical recording type and for metal-in-gap heads. It has a high Bs value of more than 1.5T (15kG), a low He value of max. 10l, a low magnetostriction value of max. 2x10 power(-6), high recording capacity and heat resistance at 500 deg.C or more.
