The graphical output arrangement contains an anti-aliasing device for smoothing aliases of vector image edges. An image output device contains a pulse width modulation or PWM writing stage and a power modulation or PM writing stage which convert image data subjected to anti-aliasing processing into multistage image data. Decision circuits decide whether the gradient of the vector represents a vertical or horizontal line and then, if vertical, whether the edge is a left or right edge (S309). If it is a left edge, the PWM stage is selected and a start position defined. The PM stage is selected if the edge is a horizontal line. USE/ADVANTAGE - The arrangement increases the advantages of anti-aliasing processing and simultaneously ensures the continuity of the image.
