A microprocessor (10) is linked by an external bus (6) to a peripheral read only memory (7), random access memory (8) and input/output unit (9). It has its own internal bus (3) connecting the CPU (2) and internal random access memory (10) to a buffer circuit (14) and current saving device (11). The buffer circuit (14) includes an isolator (14a) which is operated by the current saving device (11) to make or break the connection between the microprocessor (10) and external bus (6). The peripherals (7-9) are simultaneously switched (11a,11b) to or isolated from their power supply (PW). ADVANTAGE - Overall power consumption of system is reduced.
