A top mounting door closer has a shaft 7 mounted in a casing 1 and biased in a closing direction by spring 2 in the casing and a damping piston 13 connected to the closer shaft 7. A pivotal actuating arm external of the casing 1 is coupled to an end of the closer shaft 7 which projects from the casing and engages through a slideblock in a slide bar which is fitted in a door frame or door leaf. The closer shaft 7 has a lift cam 10 and the end of the closer shaft 7 remote from the actuating arm 26 is mounted in a mounting 28 within the casing 1. IMAGE
