A power converter, intended to apply the power supplied by an input source (15) to a load (200), comprises a converter with zero-current chopping (50) which supplies power to the load in a series of quantised energy transfer cycles; and a control device (30) which sets the real operating frequency at which the energy transfer cycles occur.
