The invention relates to a pocket electronic device which referees in football or rugby matches can use in order to check that the wall formed by the penalised players is indeed placed at the regulation distance from the player kicking a penalty free kick. The device comprises an ultrasonic impulse generator and an internal electronic chronometer configured in order to monitor whether the distance measured is at least equal to 9.15 metres or 10 metres, depending on whether a rugby or football match is involved. A test and adjustment device makes it possible to refine (adjust) the precision of the telemeter as a function of local atmospheric conditions. IMAGE
