The invention relates to a combination intended to give the skin a coloration similar to the coloration resulting from a natural tan, characterized in that it comprises: a) a component (A) containing in a suitable medium for topical application, dihydroxyacetone; and BR/ b) a component (B) containing in a medium suitable for topical application, at least one disubstituted indole derivative having the formula: BR/ (CF DRAWING IN BOPI) BR/ BR/ in which: R1, R2 and R3 denote, independently of one another, hydrogen or a C1-C4 alkyl group, one of the substituents R4 and R5 denotes C1-alkoxy; -C4, and the other denotes a hydroxyl group, the substituents R4 and R5 being in the ortho or para position with respect to each other, provided that when R4 and R5 are in positions 5 and 6 of the benzene ring, R4 at the 5-position is hydroxy and R5 alkoxy; BR/ as well as the addition salts of these compounds; BR/ components (A) and (B) being part of the same composition or intended to be mixed just before use, or to be applied successively or shifted in time.
