A flush toilet has upper and lower bowl portions 30 and 50 which together form a toilet bowl for use in a stooling mode. The bowl portions 30 and 50 are linked by a tube 40 through which flushing water can be supplied to the upper bowl portion 30 in the stooling mode and about which the upper bowl portion 30 can rotate away from the lower bowl portion 50 to enable the lower bowl 50 portion to be used in a squatting mode. A valve 44 is arranged so that in the squatting mode water supplied to the toilet does not flow through the tube 40 to the upper bowl portion 30, but flows instead via a pipeline 52 to the lower bowl portion 30.
