NEW MATERIAL:Di(meth)acrylic acid ester of formula I (R1 is 4-10C alkylene; R2 is H or CH3; average value of (a) and (b) is 0-5 each; average value of a+b is 0.5-5; average value of l is 1-10). USE:Useful as a vehicle of printing ink and paint. The compound of formula I is liquid at normal temperature and handleable easily. The coating film produced from the compound has excellent flexibility. PREPARATION:The compound of formula I can be produced by reacting the carbonate diol of formula II with acrylic acid or methacrylic acid at about 50-130 deg.C, preferably 65-90 deg.C preferably in the presence of a polymerization inhibitor such as hydroquinone. The amount of acrylic acid or methacrylic acid is preferably 1-5mol per 0.5mol of the compound of formula II. The starting compound of formula II is produced e.g. from a diaryl carbonate and an adduct of a diol compound and epsilon-caprolactone.
