FINE PARTICLE OF PITCH HAVING MICROSCOPIC OPTICALLY ANISOTROPIC STRUCTURE AND PRODUCTION THEREOF

PURPOSE:To provide fine pitch particles produced from a raw pitch, containing randomly distributed fine optically anisotropic structure, and useful for forming an isotropic carbon material, a C/C composite material, a UHP electrode, etc., having high strength and density. CONSTITUTION:The objective fine pitch particles containing randomly distributed fine optically anisotropic structure in an amount of =20vol.% and having an average particle diameter of 1-300mum can be produced by heat-treating a coal tar or petroleum pitch at about 350-500 deg.C in an inert gas atmosphere or introducing an inert gas into the reaction system.
