LITHIUM NIOBATE SINGLE CRYSTAL FREE FROM OPTICAL DAMAGE

摘要

PURPOSE: To reduce optical damage and make a nonlinear optical constant large by reducing an amount of magnesium oxide added to a single crystal deposited from lithium niobate melt having prescribed concentration to enable uniformity of crystallinity. ;CONSTITUTION: A mixture of lithium niobate powder and magnesium oxide powder is heated and melted to give a lithium niobate melt having 53-61mol% LiO2 concentration. The magnesium oxide powder content in the mixture is controlled so that a single crystal deposited therefrom may contain 0.1-3mol% magnesium oxide. Lithium niobate single crystal obtained therefrom is excellent in optical uniformity, free from optical damage and large in nonlinear optical constant.
