PURPOSE:To obtain in high yield the titled compound by reacting a substituted 1,5-pentanedione compound by one-stage process by the use of a thio acid selected from a thiocarboxylic acid, a dithiocarboxylic acid and dithiophosphoric ester as a sulfurizing agent in the presence of both a condensation agent and a hydrogen eliminating agent. CONSTITUTION:A substituted 1,5-pentanedione(e.g., 1,3,5- triphenyl-1,5-pentanedione, etc.) shown by the formula I (R1-R3 are H, halogen, alkyl, phenyl, alkoxy, styryl, nitro, amino, etc.) is reacted by the use of a thio acid selected from a thiocarboxylic acid (e.g. thioacetic acid, etc.), a dithiocarboxylic acid (e.g., dithioacetic acid, etc.) and a dithiophosphoric ester as a sulfurizing agent to give a thiopyrylium salt shown by the formula II (Y is anion) (e.g., compound shown by the formula III, etc.). in the presence of both a condensation agent (e.g., perchloric acid, etc.) and a hydrogen eliminat ing agent (e.g., air, etc.).
