PURPOSE: To obtain an easy and simple method for increasing the ratio of adding an alkaline earth metal to one molecular phenol in the production of over-basic alkaline earth metal phenate or its sulfide. ;CONSTITUTION: The objective method for producing an over-basic alkaline earth metal phenate or its sulfide is characterized by simultaneously carrying out the addition of a metal or both of the addition of the metal and sulfuration to a phenol compound and distilling off an excess amount of a dihydric alcohol and at least an excess amount of water from the resultant product, and treating the product with carbon dioxide in the presence of 0.01-1.0mol water based on 1mol alkaline earth metal oxide or hydroxide.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
