PURPOSE:To efficiently gasify a pulverized coal, by feeding a pulverized coal or char to the bottom of a gasifying oven through a nozzle to cause an ascending whirly stream and feeding a pulverized coal from a second fuel feeding portion to bring it into collision with the ascending whirly stream. CONSTITUTION:A pulverized coal, a char and a gasifying agent are fed together with a carrier gas into a combustor 12 from each pulverized coal-feeding nozzle 17a and each char-feeding nozzle 17b which are alternately arranged at a first fuel-feeding portion 15 to form an ascending whirly stream, thereby sufficiently mixing them with each other and forming a high temp. atmosphere of about 1,400-1,800 deg.C. In the above step, ash in the pulverized coal is melted and flows downward. At the same time, a pulverized coal is fed together with a carrier gas into a diffuser 13 through each pulverized coal-feeding nozzle 18a arranged at a second fuel-feeding portion 16 to bring it into collision with the ascending whirly stream, whereby the gas is stirred and mixed with the pulverized coal and the pulverized coal is efficiently gasified.
