PURPOSE: To obtain an agent for the treatment and prevention of ulcerative colitis by using a chlorinee₆ zinc complex as an active component. ;CONSTITUTION: The objective agent contains the compound of formula, a compound produced by protecting one or more carboxyl groups of the above compound with protecting groups or their pharmacologically permissible salts as active component. The pharmacologically permissible salt is an NH₄ salt or an organic salt such as organic amine in addition to alkali metal salt, especially preferably Na salt or K salt. The compound can be produced by reacting chlorinee₅ (a hydrolysis product of chlorophyll) with zinc chloride in an aqueous solution.
