摘要

PURPOSE: To improve production capacity and to reduce the size of equipment by building an electrode group in which plural electrodes are arranged face to face into a fused salt electrolysis furnace. ;CONSTITUTION: Bipolar electrodes formed by integrating ceramics-carbon composites (b) with carbonaceous base bodies (a) are used as the electrodes for fused salt electrolysis. Conductive TiB2, ZrB2, etc., having good wettability with a molten metal are used as the ceramics. The electrode group in which the plural electrodes are arranged face to face via spacers (c) is so constituted that the surfaces of the composites (b) constitute cathode surfaces and the surfaces of the carbonaceous base bodies (a) constitute anode surface. The electrode group is arranged within the fused salt electrolysis furnace in such a manner that the cathode surfaces and anode surfaces are positioned in a perpendicular direction. Since the surfaces of the composites (b) are kept wetted at all times by the electrolytically precipitated molten metal, the electrolysis reaction is progressed with excellent current efficiency.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
