PURPOSE:To obtain a catalyst capable of keeping high reactional activity (degree of conversion) over a long period of time and having high mechanical strength, in a specific catalyst for dehydration reaction containing Al, Ti, Si and oxygen by specifying the numbers of atoms of respective substances. CONSTITUTION:A catalyst for dehydration reaction is represented by AlaPbTicSidOe (wherein (a) to (e) are the numbers of atoms of respective substances and, in the case of (a)=1, (b) is 1.0-1.6, (c) is 0.05-0.5, (d) is 0.05-0.2 and (e) is 4.2-6.9). By subjecting divalent phenol and lower alcohol to dehydration reaction in a gaseous phase in the presence of the catalyst for dehydration reaction, divalent phenol monoalkyl ether is formed. In the production of divalent phenol monoalkyl ether, divalent phenol and lower alcohol may be subjected to dehydration reaction in a gaseous phase while a phosphorus compound or the phosphorus compound and a boron compound are supplied to the reactional system.
