EFFICIENT METHOD FOR GROWING GLABROUS RICE

PURPOSE: To provide an efficient process for easily growing a glabrous rice variety from conventional useful pilose rice variety in a short time and high probability at an extremely high generation frequency of glabrous rice compared with conventional method. ;CONSTITUTION: A part of a pilose rice plant body is cultured in a callus-inducing medium, a protoplast is prepared from the formed callus and the obtained protoplast is cultured in a medium for protoplast containing at least auxin as a plant hormone at a concentration higher than the concentration of cytokinin and having a pH of 5.5-6.5 after adjusting the protoplast concentration to 10⁴ to 10'⁶cells/mL. The callus formed again from the cultured protoplast is transplanted to a redifferentiation medium and the obtained plant body is cultured. A glabrous rice keeping the agricultural properties useful for a cultivation crop and characteristic to the pilose rice is selected from the cultured plant bodies.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
