PURPOSE: To obtain vinyl chloride useful for a resin, etc., with a high yield and high selectivity by allowing acetylene to react with hydrogen chloride in the presence of a specified catalytic system. ;CONSTITUTION: Acetylene is allowed to react with hydrogen chloride in the presence of a catalytic system contg. one or more group VIII metal compds. selected from among palladium and platinum compds. and an amine hydrochloride of the formula (wherein R1 and R2 are each H, alkyl or aryl and R3 is alkyl or aryl) to obtain the objective vinyl chloride.
