PURPOSE:To produce a super hard coating thin film excellent in wear resistance and corrosion resistance by forming a thin film by PVD method with a boride base super hard alloy source made by sintering. CONSTITUTION:85% TiB2 powder and 15% Mo2NiB2 are mixed and pulverized with a vibrating ball mill and dried and granulated. Next, by heating the mixed powder in an argon atmosphere at 1550 deg.C under a pressure for 20min, the alloy source having 99.0% relative density, 120kg/mm2 deflective strength and 2400Hv hardness is formed. The thin film is formed from the alloy source as a target on a steel material, SKD 61, by using an in-line sputtering device. The boride based super hard coating thin film obtained by this way exhibits excellent corrosion resistance to a molten aluminum.
