PURPOSE: To provide precise optical axis alignment in a short time by putting end surfaces at a fine distance from each other after bringing the end surfaces into contact with each other and obtaining parallelism between their optical axes, and then aligning the optical axes with each other in the separate state. ;CONSTITUTION: The optical axes of a laser unit L which has the end surface La perpendicular to the optical axis and the optical axis of a fiber unit F which has the end surface Fa perpendicular to the optical axis are aligned with each other. Namely, both the end surfaces La and Fa re applied with a specific pressing force by a compression spring 4 to come into contact with each other, and then the pressing force is removed by locking the compression spring 4 to separate the end surfaces La and Fa at the fine distance. Then the end surfaces La and Fa are moved relatively to the positions where a maximum light output is obtained to align the optical axes, and then the end surfaces La and Fa are put close by a fine distance and brought into contact with each other with a specific pressing force. Namely, the end surfaces La and Fa are only put close only by the fine distance to enter a contact state, so no deviation between the optical axes is generated when they are put back and the precise alignment state is obtained in a short time.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
