COVERING SOIL FOR ARTIFICIAL SEEDLING RAISING MAT

PURPOSE:To obtain a light-weight covering soil for artificial seedling raising mat by blending a natural, semisynthetic or synthetic water absorbing polymer compound with granular rock wool, where the water absorbing polymer is thereafter reacted with ions in water and gelatinized. CONSTITUTION:One or more of natural, semisynthetic and synthetic water absorbing polymer compounds (e.g. sodium alginate) are uniformly dispersed into granular rock wools having =7mm diameter to give a covering soil for artificial seedling raising mat having a property the water absorbing polymer with ions in water and gelatinizing. This covering soil is applied to artificial seedling raising mat made of rock wool containing water, into which water- containing rice seed is approximately uniformly dispersed, city water is sprinkled on the covering soil, the covering soil is maintained at 32 deg.C for 2 days, successively is moved to the open air, watering once daily is continued so as not to dry the covering soil, seedlings are raised for 20 days to excellently raise seedlings without causing diseases resulting from Fusarium.
