PURPOSE:To automatically execute the equal character arrangement of the lines of Japanese sentences according to the layout rule of Japanese sentences concerning Japanese/European mixed sentences in the case of setting the format of truing-up the left edges of sentences. CONSTITUTION:A line head/line end character type judgement part 34 investigates the type of characters at the line end and the line head of the next line concerning character strings arranged by a document data editing part 32. When the types of characters at the line end and the line head of the next line shows Japanese characters together in the paragraph truing-up the left sides, it is informed of a character arrangement adjustment part 35. According to the information, the character arrangement adjustment part 35 rearranges the character arrangement of lines arranged while truing-up the left sides, it is informed of the document data editing part 32. From here, the result is stored in a document data storage part 33 and displayed on the screen of a document display part 36. The line head/line end character type judgement part 34 informs the document data editing part 32 of which the lines excepting for the above-mentioned condition can be arranged as they are, and those lines are displayed by the document display part 36 as they are.
