PURPOSE: To obtain a material showing large χ(3) and high thermal decomposition temp. after vapor deposition without effecting polymn. reaction so that a highly oriented thin film can be formed at high vapor deposition rate by using titanyl phthalocyanine expressed by specified chemical structural formula. ;CONSTITUTION: This material for an org. nonlinear optical element is a single material of metal phthalocyanine compd. expressed by the formula, wherein the center metal M is titanium and oxygen (TiOPc), or mixture of this titanylphthalocyanine with other compd. As for other compds., for example, phthalocyanine deriv. such as vanadylphthalocyanine, etc. The thermal decomposition temp. of TiOPc is ≥600°C and the initiation temp. of sublimination is ≤500°C at normal pressure. Thereby, vapor deposition can be easily performed without thermal decomposition. Further, an oriented thin film having the same structure as that of TiOPc single crystal can be formed during vapor deposition of TiOPc.
