PURPOSE: To prevent edge cracking and improve the product yield and the working efficiency by shaping the end surface at the width side of a rolled material with an edger roll arranged at the inlet side of a finish rolling mill at the time of hot-rolling a grain oriented electric steel sheet. ;CONSTITUTION: The end surface at the width side of the rolled material S before shaping shows the (a) shape in the figure caused by barrelling deformation X, winkling deformation Y, etc. At the inlet side of the finish rolling mill, the end surface at the width side is shaped by the edger roll positioned to the (b) in the figure corresponding to a nominal plate width of the rolled material S. The end surface after shaping, becomes the (c) shape in the figure.
