PURPOSE: To enhance the withstand voltage of an electron gun by preventing clogging of a shadow mask resulting from the presence of foreign matter in the glass bulb of a cathode-ray tube and emission loss of the fluorescent screen of the tube. ;CONSTITUTION: Before an electron gun is sealed, foreign matter generated in a glass bulb is given impact and vibration by tapping the upper face of the glass panel 1 of the glass bulb using a resin hammer 13. ionized air 27 introduced into the glass bulb is blown against a shadow mask 3. Also electric potential is variably applied to foreign matter from the anode button 24 of a funnel 9 so that the foreign matter, i.e., charged particles, can be easily detached. The foreign detached.
