PURPOSE: To provide the method for separating and refining hydrogen by using a hydrogen occlusion alloy which has good thermal efficiency and can recover high-purity hydrogen. ;CONSTITUTION: A slurry 8 is circulated between an occlusion tank 1 and a release tank 2. A hydrogen-contg. gas 9 is introduced into the occlusion tank 1 and the hydrogen is occluded by the slurry 8. The slurry itself is heated up by the quantity of the heat generated at this time to prepare the high-temp. and high-pressure slurry. This high-temp. and high-pressure slurry is reduced in pressure by a reducing valve 3 to form the high-temp. and low-pressure slurry which is then transferred into the release tank 2. The high-temp. and low-pressure slurry 8 transferred into the release tank 2 releases the hydrogen 10. The temp. of the slurry 8 is lowered by the absorption of the heat according to the release of the hydrogen at this time to form the low-temp. and low- pressure slurry. This low-temp. and low-pressure slurry 8 is pressurized by a slurry pump 5 to form the low-temp. and high-pressure slurry.
