PURPOSE: To prevent clogging of a pouring hole for molten steel in a molten steel vessel by packing carbon-coated silica sand into the pouring hole in the molten steel vessel and also piling the specific quantity of olivine sand on a bottom refractory. ;CONSTITUTION: The pouring hole 27 formed of an upper nozzle 22 arranged at lower part of the molten steel vessel 21, a fixed plate 24 and slide plate 25 in the nozzle 23. Into the pouring hole 27, the carbon-coated silica sand 1 is packed and on this, the olivine sand 2 having apparent density of 3-7.5 times of the carbon-coated silica sand is piled on the bottom refractory in the vessel 21 so as to cover the pouring hole 27. At the time of pouring the molten steel into the vessel, the molten steel is not brought into direct contact with the carbon-coated silica sand 1. On the surface of olivine sand 2 contacting with the molten steel, the suitable sintered layer is formed, but as infiltration of the molten steel is not developed, the carbon-coated silica sand 1 is not sintered.;COPYRIGHT: (C)1993,JPO&Japio
