Steel girder (3) resistant to buckling by lateral tipping, which includes avertical web (4), at least one horizontal soleplate (5;6) and at least onetransverse strainer (7), and which has a vertical plane of symmetry, in whichthe ratio between the minimum modulus of elastic bending and the maximummodulus of elastic bending of the cross-section of the girder is between0.40 and 0.75, and preferably between 0.45 and 0.65. Furthermore, the ratiobetween the minimum modulus of inelastic bending and the maximum modulus ofinelastic bending is between 0.50 and 1, and preferably between 0.60 and0.80. To this end, the girder (3) comprises at least one longitudinalstrainer (8) composed of two components anchored on either side of the web(4), and the strainer (8) is symmetrical relative to the vertical plane ofsymmetry of the girder.
