PROCESS FOR THE REMOVAL OF CHLOROPHYLL AND COLORED SUBSTANCES OF GLYCERIDIC OILS USING AMORPHIC ALUMINUM SILICA

A method of removing chlorophyll and other color bodies to refine glyceride oils is disclosed. The method involves, sequentially, (1) treating the oil to substantially remove phospholipids and soaps and (2) subjecting the treated oil to treatment with a silica alumina adsorbent to remove chlorophyll and other color bodies from the treated oil. The novel method permits the adsorbent to be repeatedly thermally regenerated by calcination to retain a high capacity for the removal of chlorophyll.
