Silage cutter (11) having a frame (12), which comprises an upright frame portion (14) and a transverse beam (15) which is at least approximately horizontal and to which a plurality of support prongs (16) are secured, and a cutting device, which is arranged on the frame (12) above the support prongs (16) and approximately parallel to the support prongs, and which has an L- or U-shaped support element (1), which can be displaced up and down, with one or two side limbs (1''), formed at right angles to the frame (12), and a middle limb (1') parallel to the frame, a rigid blade element which has saw blade-like teeth (2) and which can be reciprocated in an oscillating manner by means of drive means, being guided along each of the limbs (1', 1''), so that the blade elements also form a U- or L-shaped blade element (3), characterized in that one end of each blade element associated with a side limb (1'') is connected to one end of the blade element associated with the middle limb (1') by means of a flexible connection element (8) which is guided over the associated corner of the support element (1), and at least one drive means (26) acts exclusively at the second end upon at least one blade element associated with a side limb (1'').
