METHOD AND INSTRUMENT FOR DTERMINING THE DEGREE OF DISINTEGRATION OF STONES DURING THE KIDNEY-STONE CRUSHING

Fragments having dimensions less than e.g. 3mm are found to undergo movement with amplitude inversely proportional to their size, in a focused beam of pulses applied at the rate of 5 to 10 Hz. The power level is lower than that used for their destruction, but higher than that used for ultrasonic echography. - The pulses are produced by excitation of the focusing transducer cap from an auxiliary generator while the receiver is switched to a second CRT display. A Doppler device controlling the brightness of the main CRT gives an adjustable window for correlation.
