Detecting leak from oil drum or chemical container - covering by hermetically sealed pressurised enclosure using air or gas for leak detection

An oil drum (2) is placed on a platform (1) and a cover (5) is placed over the drum via a hydraulic handling system (4). The cover and platform form an airtight seal. An air compressor generates overpressure under the cover. Air pressure is monitored by a pressure gauge (7). Pressure is locked in and monitored. If air pressure drops, this is evidence that the oil drum leaks. In a reverse operation of the system, a chamber (8) is connected with the interior of the cover via a flowmeter (9). Gas is applied from a source (6) which pressurises the cover and the chamber. A leak in the drum results in a flow of gas from the chamber (8) to the cover (5). This is detected by the flowmeter.
