Purifying 1,1-bis-para-chlorophenyl tri:chloro:ethanol from dicofol

Addn. cpds. (I) of 1,1-bi-(4-chlorophenyl)- 2,2,2-trichloro-ethanol (p,p'-dicofol) and a moderately electron donating cpd. (II) are new. The addn. cpds. are pref. of formula (Ia): where X = DMSO, cyclohexanone, isophorone, pyridine, 1,4-dioxane, AcOH, MeCN or water; n = 1 or 2 when X = DMSO; or 2 when X = 1,4-dioxane; or 1 in the remaining cases. Prepn. of p,p'-dicofol from its mixt. with o,p'-dicofol, o,p'-DDT and o,p'-DDE is also claimed, comprising forming (I) where (II) is e.g. a hydroxylated substance, an ether, ketone, carboxylic acid, sulphoxide or N-contg. deriv.; isolating (I); and decomposing (I).
