Substances with similar physico-chemical properties are separated by use of enzymes free from co-enzyme (co-factor), on which they are absorbed without suffering any change in chemical structure. In a pref. realisation, the substances to be separated are sugars and the enzyme is a type responsible for oxidn.-redn. reactions. More specifically, the enzyme beta-galactose dehydrogenase is used to separate the sugars rhamnose and galactose. The enzyme substrate can be separated and recovered after use
