ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSUREA litter picking device in the form of a housing having atleast one downwardly protruding spike and an upwardly extendinghandle secured thereto is provided with a knock-off plateslidable relative to the spike. According to one embodiment, theknock-off plate is connected to a rod which extends telescopical-ly within the handle and which is normally spring biased in adirection to eject litter from the spike. A spring biasedfrictional latch is provided in the handle for engaging the rodto allow upward movement of the rod within the handle as thespike is forced into litter and which allows spring biaseddownward movement of the rod and knock-off plate upon pivotalmovement of the latch out of frictional engagement with the rod.In another embodiment, the spike and knock-off plate are part ofa kit adapted to replace the sponge assembly in a conventionalroller-sponge mop. The spike is connected to a U-shaped channelmember adapted to be secured to the rollers of such a mop and theknock-off plate is connected to the shaft member to which thesponge assembly would normally be connected for reciprocatingmovement relative to the rollers and therefore relative to thespike.
